On Poverty, by America by Matthew Desmond

On Poverty by America by Matthew Desmond published in two thousand twenty-three:

Matthew Desmond’s two thousand sixteen book, Evicted, had me asking if eviction is “their problem” or “our problem”? Now, Poverty by America presents the same question to poverty.

Matthew Desmond is a former Associate Professor at Harvard, a current Sociologist at Princeton University, a Pulitzer Prize winning author, and a contributor to New York Times Magazine. Those categories don’t exactly scream poverty. So, why is he writing about poverty?

Before Desmond was a professor at ivy league colleges, he spent his days interviewing and living with people living in poverty. Those experiences are documented in his last book. But in Poverty by America, Desmond brings policy to the table, and he pulls fewer punches. His message is clear: poverty exists and here’s how it works.

So, America, is poverty “their problem” or “our problem”?
