On The Post-American World by Fareed Zakaria

On The Post-American World Release two-point-zero by Fareed Zakaria published in two thousand twelve:

Three things stuck out: (1) inevitabilities, (2) inequities, and (3) priorities.

Fareed Zakaria is a journalist who has work for large news media organizations. The Post-American World covers a breadth historical, geopolitical, and sociocultural knowledge as Zakaria provides commentary on the future of national and international politics. The writing is deliberate, articulate, and deep.

The United States is losing its position as the world’s leading empire. Zakaria describes some of America’s inequities before arguing for a measured response to the inevitable decline of American hegemony. Zakaria offers six priorities for a post-American world.

Those six principles or suggested courses of action can be found in the final chapter of the book. They can also be grossly oversimplified as, teamwork. Will America abandon its hegemonic habits? Will the United States train itself to be a better international teammate?

International prestige is better achieved through diplomacy and competence. Control and dominance make for an anxious and stressful world. True alpha nations form coalitions to forge international consensus and maintain cooperative efforts that lead to a safer and happier world for all people. Will the United States lead by example in a post-American world?
